New to Salem?

Pastor welcome message

Welcome to Salem in the name of Jesus!

We’re glad you’re here. If you want a quick window into who we are, here it is – we are all about Jesus! Together, we live in His forgiveness and extend it to others. We encourage each other to be the best versions of ourselves, and our best selves emerge when we walk in Jesus’ footsteps. We share Jesus’ love amongst ourselves and out in the community. Our lives are filled with hope – hope for the day when Jesus will return to make all things right. Finally, you are invited! If you’d like to learn more about us, or would simply like to pray with someone, don’t hesitate to call! We’re happy to talk with you. The Lord grant you His peace and joy!

What to expect at Salem

Our desire is for you to feel completely comfortable at Salem, whether it’s your first time visiting us or you are a lifelong member. Below are some questions that you might have, along with their answers. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to call the church office (314) 741-6781.

Where should I park?

Salem has a large parking lot with ample parking, including wheelchair accessible parking.

Directly accessed from the parking lot, there is a set of glass doors. Once inside, there is a set of stairs that leads up to the main level. If you prefer to avoid the stairs, there is an elevator to the left of the stairway.

Salem worships at 10:00 AM on Sunday morning, or 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening. We enjoy a wide variety of music and liturgical elements. They are engaging, interactive, and, most importantly, founded on the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures. The central message of the service is the Gospel message of Christ crucified and risen for the forgiveness of all our sins.

A sermon is the proclamation of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the application of that message for you as you live your life in this world surrounded and saturated by sin and death. Since there are different readings each week, each sermon is different, but we can assure you that you will hear the Gospel–Christ crucified and risen for you–proclaimed in full each Sunday.

What you wear to service is a matter of Christian freedom, and you will see a variety of clothing at Salem. Some prefer to wear dress clothes, while others prefer to wear jeans and a t-shirt.

However you are dressed, you will be welcomed by the saints/members of Salem Lutheran Church in the name of the Lord.

We have a time to collect an offering at every worship service, but it is not an obligation. Rather, offerings are a matter of faith. Scripture teaches us that our offerings are a response in faith to God for the gifts that He has richly poured out upon us, especially in His son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Consequently, there is no prescribed offering amount that must be given.

If you choose to give, you are more than welcome to do so. You may also give online if that’s more comfortable for you.

All offerings are used for the further proclamation of the Gospel of Christ in Black Jack, North County, and throughout the world.

Before our Sunday morning service, Salem offers an education hour for both children and adults, which begins at 8:45AM. Children ages three years old up to the eighth grade can go to Sunday School, where they will hear about God’s Love for them in Jesus Christ. Adult Bible Study is also held at 8:45AM as part of our education hour and is open to anyone ninth grade and older.
